Up to 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, October 9, police were still at the home of Ruel Reid, sacked Education Minister. Police also want to arrest Reid’s wife and daughter.
Chief Technical Director of the Financial Investigations Division (FID), Robin Sykes told Nationwide Radio that Reid had not yet been taken into custody.
Professor Fritz Pinnock, President of CMU and JLP Councillor for Brown’s Town Division Kim Brown Lawrence were earlier taken into custody in simultaneous raids that commenced at 5 this morning. The police said the raids were targeted at the main suspects in a multi-million dollar fraud investigations related to the Ministry of Education and the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU).
But up to six hours later, Mr Reid had not been taken into custody although a police team remained at his home in Barbican St Andrew. His wife and daughter were not allowed to leave.
At the same time, Mr Sykes confirmed that the police had visited “the location” of former JLP MP and businessman, Othneil Lawrence. Mr Lawrence was mentioned in reports months ago as having had a multi-million dollar contract with the CMU.
