The Executive Board of the Jamaica Association for the Deaf invites suitably qualified persons to apply for the post of Executive Director to lead development and change in this progressive non-governmental, social, voluntary organization, which caters to the diverse needs of persons who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

As chief executive of the JAD, the incumbent will be responsible for the success of the organization in accomplishing its mission and vision; assuring relevance to the community; and accountability to its diverse constituents. The Executive Director has direct responsibility for managing the Administrative Division and provides oversight for divisional operations of Education and Training, Social Services and Business Development. In consultation with the Board of Directors and key stakeholders, the Executive Director charts the strategic direction of the organization and drives implementation of strategic plans.

Functions include:

1. Ensuring legal compliance as a registered company with charitable status
2. Driving strategic planning and direction for organizational activities to achieve the mission of an improved quality of life for persons who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
3. Managing and administering day-to-day operations to assure a smoothly functioning and efficient organization
4. Supporting the governance function of the Executive Board
5. Providing financial oversight to the affairs of the organization
6. Facilitating community relations

Qualifications: Qualifications and Competencies: • At least a Masterʼs degree in a related area, such as Educational Administration and Leadership, Organizational Development
• Trained teacher qualification would be an asset
• At least five yearsʼ experience working with the Deaf
• Experience in leadership and management at a strategic level for a minimum of five years
• Thorough knowledge and familiarity with Jamaican Deaf Culture
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Fluency in Jamaican Sign Language
• Ability to network and connect with diverse groups
