The accidents keep piling up on the island’s highways as less than 10 hours after a woman was killed in a multiple-vehicle pile-up along the Mandela Highway, another person is dead following a similar collision on the PJ Patterson highway between Kingston and May Pen, Clarendon.
Several others were also reported injured in the mishap that occurred shortly before 10 pm Sunday.
Reports said a motorist was travelling along the highway when he stopped suddenly in the middle of the roadway. Three other vehicles that were travelling behind ended up colliding with each other. The injured were rushed to hospital where one was pronounced dead, police sources said.
It was not clear up to press time the gender of the victim who died.
Earlier, Sunday, a woman was killed in another multiple-vehicle crash along the Mandela High Way.
In that incident, motorist lost control of his vehicle which ended up colliding with a truck. The impact of the collision caused a further ripple effect involving about five other vehicles.
Police were called to the location and five people taken to hospital where one of the victims, a female was pronounced dead. The identity of the woman has not yet been released.
48 hours earlier, several vehicles were involved in another accident along the highway in which 10 people were injured.
