Arnett Stopped By Penalties In Caribbean Club Championship

Arnett Gardens lost 6-5 in sudden-death penalty kicks to Club Athletico Pantoja of the Dominican Republic in CONCACAF Caribbean Club Championship on their home turf at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Sunday.

The teams had battled to a 0-0 draw at the end of regulation time, but the usual 30-minute extra-time to decide a winner in a final did not apply in this competition.

Scoring from the spot for Club Athletico Pantoja were Jean Lopez, Nicholas Rebollo, Eduardo Centeno, Jesus Quintero, Carlos Russell and goalkeeper Odalis Baez, while Armado Maita missed his effort.

For Arnett Gardens, Lennox Russell, Newton Sterling, Al Nesbeth, Jabeur Johnson and Jarmar Martin scored with Fabian Reid missing.

Arnett Gardens had defeated Central from Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 on Friday to make the final of the tournament, while Club Athletico Pantoja had stopped Portmore 4-3.

The victory earns Club Athletico Pantoja a direct path to the 2019 CONCACAF Club Championships, with Arnett Gardens and Red Stripe Premier League champions Portmore United, who finished the tournament in third position, qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions League.
