Minister of National Security, Dr Horace Chang, is urging citizens to make use of counselling services provided by churches as well as other domestic violence intervention centres.
According to a release from the Ministry of National Security, the Minister’s comments follow three cases of domestic disputes that have resulted in the loss of lives, since the start of the year. A murder suicide took place in St Catherine Saturday night and a murder was committed in St Elizabeth Sunday night. In both cases the perpetrators were boyfriends in a relationship that had gone sour.
While expressing condolences to the families of those affected, Minister Chang says the Government is taking steps “to bolster legal framework for greater protection of women, children and the elderly and bring perpetrators to justice.”
Dr Chang is encouraging people who are aware of domestic disputes in their communities to make reports to Police 119.
