Thousands of commuters including school children are walking home or finding other forms of transportation as Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) buses remain off the streets.
Most major thoroughfares in the capital city are without the usual presence of the yellow JUTC buses most of which did not make it onto the streets of the Corporate Area, and parts of St Catherine, served by them.
The Government owned bus company had said it would have a phased resumption Tuesday afternoon, with full normality expected by 5 p.m.
But checks by Jamaica Today on Washington Boulevard and Half Way Tree, the capital city’s main transport hub, showed that there were no buses loading or taking passengers.
A union leader for some of the workers Clifton Grant of the University and Allied Workers Union (UAWU) said workers were fearful following the murder of one of their colleagues Monday night and were not in the mood to return to work.
