Jamaica Defence Force’s Kevonna Willis and Delano McLaughlin of GC Foster won their respective amateur bout against Raheem Pitter and Roshane Daley on the undercard of the main event of the Wray and Nephew Contender Series at the Chinese Benevolent Association on Wednesday (May 9).
Willis secured a unanimous decision over Pitter of Boys’ Town Gym, while McLaughlin knocked out Seaview Gym’s Daley, who had to be taken to hospital for observation.
In the first fight of the evening, Willis dominated throughout, giving Pitter very little chance to hit him, while landing some powerful punches.
The second fight was fairly even with McLaughlin and Daley engaging in a number of fisticuffs that had them breathing heavily close to the end of the second round.
Daley, who was slightly ahead, was, however, caught with an uppercut on the chin early in the third round and although he stayed on his feet, the follow-up combination floored him after 28 seconds.
He stayed down and had to be attended to by the ringside medical team, headed by Dr. Andre McDonald, who decided to send him to the hospital.
