Cop Repels Attack In Taxi, Shoots Man

Police are reporting that an off-duty policeman repelled an attack, shot his attacker and disarmed him early Saturday morning, November 10, in Portmore, St Catherine.

Police say the man is now under Police guard in hospital following the confrontation between himself and the off-duty Police officer on the Newlands main road in Portmore.

Reports from the Portmore Police are that about 3:30 a.m., the off-duty officer was in a taxi when he was accosted by a man who was also a passenger in the vehicle. The man reportedly opened gunfire at the lawman who repelled the attack, during which the man was shot and disarmed.

According to police, they were summoned and the wounded man was taken to hospital where he was admitted.

One Taurus 9mm pistol and a round of ammunition were seized during the incident.

The matter was reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Inspectorate of Constabulary (IOC).
