Cop Shot And Injured By ‘Friendly Fire’; Probe Launched

A policeman has been hospitalised in serious condition after he was shot and injured during an early morning operation to capture wanted men in Buff Bay, Portland on Sunday.

The Constabulary Communications Unit (CCU) has confirmed the incident but said the Inspectorate of Constabulary is investigating the matter to determine how the policeman was shot. Earlier reports had suggested that the constable was shot accidentally.

According to reports, the policeman was part of the Operations Support Team that went to the Olivier Housing Scheme in Buff Bay shortly before 6:00 a.m. after receiving information that wanted men were at the location. The policeman was reportedly shot shortly after he entered the house.

He was rushed to the Annotto Bay Hospital from where he was transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital.

The incident is also being investigated by the Independent Commission of Investigations.
