Cop whose murder case was thrown out back in court



Detective Constable Shawn Pennington whose case was dismissed by a judge last week based on an interpretation of a judge of the recent Court of Appeal ruling regarding INDECOM was back before the courts today on the same murder charge.


A report from today (Wednesday) from The Independent Commission of Investigations INDECOM  said Det Cons Pennington was today arrested by the Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) and charged for the murder of Rishawn Oliver. This  followed an investigation by the (INDECOM) and a ruling by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).


INDECOM said Mr. Pennington was taken before Parish Judge,  Evan Brown, in the St. Catherine Home Circuit Court. He was granted bail in the sum of $800,000, with sureties.

The matter was adjourned for mention on October 25, 2018.


The case was dismissed by the Parish Court Judge on May 8, 2018 because of the Judge’s interpretation of the recent Court of Appeal decision in Police Federation  INDECOM that said the watchdog group had no authority to arrest police officers.
