At least two policemen have reportedly been shot in a gun battle during a major security forces operation taking place in Ironshore, St James, since early this afternoon (Saturday, April 28). The operation was launched to capture a man said to be wanted for several murders.
Police and soldiers have surrounded a house where the man and an unknown number of cronies were said to be hiding out. On the approach of members of the security force, the men in the house reportedly opened fire. Members of the security forces responded with gunfire. A shootout has been ensuing with gun fire periodically coming from the house and from the security forces.
It was during one of these exchanges that two policemen were shot. One received three bullet wounds and is at hospital.
Police have called in reinforcements and were at the scene up to 6 o’clock. Ironshore is a large mostly upscale residential community near Montego Bay, St James, that is under a State of Emergency.
