Cuba Edge Reggae Girlz 1-0 To Top Women’s Challenge Series Group

Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz finished second in Group B of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Challenge Series after they were edged 1-0 by Cuba at Drewsland on Sunday.

A 61st-minute strike by Maria Torres, her fourth goal of the competition, enabled Cuba to top the group with maximum six points, with Jamaica finishing on three and Barbados without a point.

Torress pounced from close range Jamaica’s custodian captain Chris-Ann Chambers parried a shot from Lilian Sandoval into her path.

The Jamaicans controlled the action early in each half but failed to convert the many opportunities they created. They guilty guilty of tame efforts at Cuba’s goalkeeper Lucylena Rodriquez.

This allowed Cuba to rally in the second phase of both halves and eventually get the winner.
