Early Dismissal At Anchovy Primary After Boy’s Death

School was dismissed early today, Wednesday at Anchovy Primary, St James following the tragic death of a nine-year-old student there yesterday.

Dead is grade two student Easton Stapleton of Belmont District.

Reports are that about 3:30 yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, June 12) the boy was in the schoolyard. A teacher was reversing her car to leave the premises when it appeared the car got out of control and struck the boy pinning him against a perimeter wall.

He was pronounced dead at hospital.

A piece of the broken wall fell hitting a vendor outside the school fence. She was treated at hospital.

The teacher involved reportedly fainted and was also taken to hospital where it is reported she lapsed in and out of consciousness several times.

A teacher at the school confirmed to Jamaica Today that school was dismissed early. Reports were that there was counselling involving students and staff before the early, pre-lunch, dismissal.

The Anchovy police are investigating.
