Etana Makes History With First-Ever Female Nod For Reggae Grammy

Prolific musician and songbird Etana has become the first-ever female nominee for the ‘Best Reggae Album’ category at the 61st Grammy Awards.

Etana and her ‘Reggae Forever’ album will be face stiff competition as fellow nominees include: ‘A Matter of Time’ by Protoje, ‘As the World Turns’ by Black Uhuru, ‘Rebellion Rising’ by Ziggy Marley, and ’44/876′ by Sting and Shaggy.

Etana’s nod for the Reggae Grammy somewhat levels the playing field in the male-dominated industry – as men, or mostly male groups have won the award over the course of its 33-year history, with the exception of Morgan’s Heritage in 2016.

The nominees for the biggest night in music was revealed on Friday, December 7, with the awards show taking place on Sunday, February 10 at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.
