Vendors at the Railway Ground Market, Downtown Kingston, are arriving to see the loss of dozens of stalls destroyed in a fire this morning, Tuesday, August 7.
More than 145 stalls were lost at the Market on West Queen Street. The market that mainly deals in ground provision also had some amount of dry goods.
The fire broke out at the market just before 5 o’clock.
Three units from Kingston and two from St Catherine fought the blaze that was fed by wooden stalls and plastic material.
Officials from the Kinston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation are expected to tour the site today.
Jamaica Fire Brigade officials are investigating the cause of the fire and are to determine the loss.
