More details are emerging about the gun battle between a security forces team and a wanted gangster in St James in which the gunman was killed and at least two policemen shot and wounded.
Dead is Nico Samuels, otherwise called Bowza. Police said Samuels was a member of the former Ski Mask Gang and the Barrett Town Gang and was wanted for several killings, including a triple murder in St James in 2017.
As Jamaica Today reported yesterday, police said they surrounded a house in Hatfield, Ironshore, near Montego Bay, Saturday afternoon (April 28). As members of the security forces approached they were reportedly met with gunfire. Area residents said there was a standoff with an exchange of gunfire over prolonged period between members of the security forces and Samuels and his cronies.
The house was occupied by several persons who were evacuated.
Two policemen were shot and wounded, one of them receiving minor wounds.
Police recovered two revolvers but said they believed a rifle was used in firing on them from the house. However, they did not recover a rifle, leading to questions about whether shooters escaped from the house.
Police sources said they held two young men who are being questioned although the youths are not believed to have been part of Samuels’ crew.
