The Health and Wellness Ministry is developing a policy that will guide the way in which, charitable donations are given and accepted in the public health sector. Health Minister, Chris Tufton, says “Volunteerism is critical to the public health sector”, as his ministry develops a ‘Gift Policy’.
According to the JIS, Minister Tufton says the ministry wants “to encourage giving by ensuring it is done in an orderly way and in a transparent way that does not undermine the motivation of persons and organisations.”
The minister added that “The gift must be used for the purpose for which it was intended. This is one of the things that the Gift Policy will outline – how you give, and the accountability structure of how you give.”
The policy aims to provide a structure for accountability and to give appreciation to those who give to health institutions and projects.
