Prime Minister Andrew Holness says that so far this year the NHT has contributed to 6,000 housing starts. Mr Holness says that performance is better than what has been done by the NHT in the past five years combined.
Giving the main address at the Jamaica Labour Party’s 75th annual conference at the National Arena on Sunday afternoon, November 18, the JLP Leader said even with the improved performance of the NHT, they alone could not turn the housing situation around.
He said the Government has a duty to “provide an environment where the people can get credit to build their own homes.”
Mr Holness said the only time Jamaica is going to have the majority of people in planned and organized settlements and decent housing is with people being able to get money to build their own houses.
