INDECOM Disputes Claim About Murdered ‘Main Witness’

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has refuted claims that the main witness in the Mario Dean case was shot and killed.

Media reports claim that Fahdeal Ferguson, was shot and killed last Friday, April 20. He was the main witness in the case involving Dean who in 2014, was beaten and eventually died while in police custody, but the investigators said this was not so.

They also say Ferguson had given a statement in the case.

“Mr. Ferguson had given a statement to INDECOM as part of the Mario Deane investigation undertaken by INDECOM and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). However, Mr. Ferguson was not the main witness nor was he called to give evidence at the Preliminary hearing,” INDECOM officers stated.

INDECOM stated that the proceedings in the St. James Parish Court now await a ruling from the Parish Judge on May 4, 2018.  Officers from INDECOM stated that they have been in communication with the JCF, who are conducting the investigation into the death of Mr. Ferguson.
