Aisha Praught-Leer celebrates after winning silver in the 1500m at the Pan-American Games
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) announced the results of its Athletes’ Commission elections today October 6 and six new members were elected.
Jamaican Olympic middle-distance runner Aisha Praught-Leer received 438 to hold a seat on the commission.
Aisha will now speak on behalf of her fellow athletes and help in decision-making within the IAAF.
The commission also severs as the link between active athletes and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The remaining five who were elected are: American distance runner Bernard Lagat; New Zealand shot putter Valerie Adams; Belgian sprinter Kevin Borlée and two pole vaulters France’s Renaud Lavillenie and Greece’s Katerina Stefanidi.
The election took place in Doha during the IAAF World Athletics Championships.
