A JUTC driver considered a suspect in the stabbing death of a taxi operator is in police custody.
Dead is 37-year-old Akeeno Britton, otherwise called ‘Bubinile’, driver of Ambrook Lane, Kingston 10.
According to the Duhaney Park Police, from information received about 6:45 p.m., on Monday, September 23 Britton was driving a Toyota Isis motorcar along Washington Boulevard in Kingston 20 when he allegedly got into an altercation with the driver of a Jamaica Urban Transit Company bus. The situation escalated and a knife was brought into play and Britton was stabbed several times. He was assisted to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Police are confirming that the JUTC bus driver has turned himself in to the police.
Reports independent of the police are that the stabbing death of Britton led to anger among taxi operators who immediately started withdrawing their services from various routes. However, a JUTC driver was later shot and killed in what was said to be a reprisal killing. The two deaths led to a strike by JUTC crew and by taxi and some bus operators.
Meanwhile, investigators are appealing to anyone with information that can assist them to contact the Duhaney Park Police at 876-933-4280, Crime Stop at 311 or the Police 119 emergency number.
