Man Charged For Murder, Arson In Two Attacks On Women

A man has been charged for murder and arson in two separate events in St. Catherine on Friday, September 14.

Dead is 47-year-old Denise Bright of McCook’s Pen, St. Catherine.

Charged with murder, attempted murder, assault at common law and arson is 63-year-old Ernest Whyte, construction worker of McCook’s Pen, St. Catherine.

Reports from the Spanish Town Police are that about 10:00 a.m., Whyte and Bright were involved in an argument when he used a machete to inflict multiple wounds to Bright and fled the scene. Later that day, about 2:25 p.m., Whyte went to Mansfield Avenue and got into another dispute with another female when he used a knife to inflict stab wounds to her before setting her house ablaze. The fire was extinguished and the woman was assisted to hospital for treatment. Whyte was arrested on Friday, September 14 and was charged with the offences on Wednesday, October 10.

Whyte is scheduled to appear before the St. Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday, October 16.
