Man Charged In New Year’s Day Murder


Police have charged a man for murder in the New Year’s Day murder in August town that was part of a flare up that led to a curfew being imposed in that Corporate Area community.

Charged with murder, illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition is 32-year-old Marvin Markland, otherwise called Papa, businessman of Goldsmith Villa, Kingston 7.

He has been charged with the murder of 34-year-old Omar Johnson of Payton Place, also of August Town.

Reports are that Johnson was killed about 8 o’clock on Tuesday morning, January 1 as he walked along a road in the community. He was pounced upon by several men with high powered weapons and was shot several times.
