Man killed in trailer crash on Edward Seaga Highway

A man died after a loaded run-away trailer truck crashed on the Edward Seaga Highway, near Mammee Bay, St Ann this morning. The man killed is believed to be the driver of the truck.

Reports are that shortly after 8 a.m. Friday, November 9, the flatbed truck was taking pavement bricks and was in a westbound lane near the roundabout at Mammee Bay when the driver lost control.

The driver apparently sought to bring the vehicle under control by taking the steep, upward sloping escape lane. However, the vehicle ran the full length over the edge of the escape lane and the trailer head burst into flames.

The man who died has not yet been identified. A woman that was also in the trailer head was taken to hospital.

Several of the blocks were removed by passing motorists and nearby residents as police sought to clear the two lanes blocked by the material that fell from the trailer before the crash.
