Man Killed, Other Wounded In Gun Battle With St Ann Police

One man was shot dead and another shot and wounded this morning, Thursday June 14, in St Ann, in what police said was a shootout.

Police reports are that just after midnight Wednesday, police ordered a car to stop along the North Coast Highway in the vicinity of Old Fort Bay.

The car did not stop and persons in it started firing on the police.

Police gave chase and engaged the shooters. The car with the gunmen turned off the road at Steer Town and overturned.

Police said two men ran from the overturned vehicle. Checks of the vehicle revealed one man clutching a handgun. He was pronounced dead at hospital.

Police said the other man was later held in the community. Reports are that people in the area saw him in a gully and pointed police in that direction.

Police have not yet released the names of the dead man and the wounded man. However, DSP Beresford Williams told the St Ann Municipal Corporation (SAMC) that the wounded man was from the St Andrew South Division.

The other man escaped.
