Met Service Reminds J’cans To Be Prepared

As Jamaica enters the more active part of the hurricane season, Director of the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, Evan Thompson, is reminding Jamaicans to stay prepared and not let their guard down.

In an interview with JamaicaToday, he said “We have seen no significant activity in the last two hurricane seasons but (we are) expecting conditions to change with the island now forecasted for above-normal hurricane activity.”

The outlook predicts an above normal season and we could see up to 17 named storms, five to nine of which could become hurricanes and two to four of those becoming major hurricanes.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1, to November 30.
