Ganja and cocaine valued at more than two million dollars were seized by the Narcotics Police in separate operations on Wednesday, September 19. One man has been arrested in connection with one of the seizures.
Police said the first seizure occurred during an operation in McAlpine, Whitehouse in Westmoreland about 2:30 p.m. Reports are that a hut was searched and approximately 80 pounds of ganja was seized. The drug has an estimated street value of J$300,000. No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
Hours later, about 5:00 p.m., another operation was carried out on Kensington Crescent, St. Andrew. During the operation, loose ganja weighing approximately 196 pounds and cocaine weighing approximately one kilogram were seized. Detectives estimate that the ganja would have fetched approximately J$776,000 if sold on the streets.
The cocaine has an estimated street value of J$1.1 million. One man was arrested in connection with the seizure; however his identity is being withheld at this time.
The investigation into both cases continues.
