Naggo Head Retain Primary Champs Title

Naggo Head won the 38th staging of the INSPORTS Primary Athletics Championships at the National Stadium on Saturday to successfully defend their title.

Six points separated the champions from second place as Naggo Head amassed 163 points, with Spanish Town finishing second with 157 and Rousseau third with 156. Greater Portmore with 113 and Lyssons with 91 completed the top five.

In one of the championships’ closest and most exciting contest ever, the lead changed many times on Saturday’s final day, as Naggo Head, Rousseau and Spanish Town all held the advantage at different stages of the day.

With two races to go in the 40-event meet, the scores were tied as both Naggo Head and Spanish Town were on 145 points. Spanish Town took gold in the penultimate event, the girls’ 4×200 Open relay, as Naggo Head finished second.

Behind by two points, and need to finish above eighth spot in the final event, the boys’ 4×200 Open relay, to retain their title, Naggo Head ended third behind Rousseau and Portsmouth, to spark wild celebration from their contingent.
