A man was murdered and four persons injured during a shooting in Stony Hill Square yesterday morning, February 12.
The dead man has been identified as 26-year-old Shamari Horace Waul.
According to reports, he was on his way to work, and as he waited at the main bus stop in the square, he was pounced upon by armed men who opened fire, hitting him several times. Unfortunately, he died on the spot.
The four injured persons were all bystanders, including a motorist, who was shot twice. He was reportedly carrying his daughter to school. Those injured were shot in the neck, arm, leg, and chest.
The police noted that at around 6:30 a.m., two gunmen walked up to a crowd of people standing along the roadway in Stony Hill Square and opened fire before escaping on foot.
According to an onlooker, the men hid their faces.
Residents and business owners within the square are requesting the police to increase their presence in the area and do more patrolling.
The murder and shootings are being investigated by the St. Andrew North police.
