The rural parishes that continue to have large aggregate numbers of murders (even though their percentage increase may be low) are Westmoreland 47, up 9.3% on last year’s figures, and Clarendon 44, up from 39 (or 12.8%) last year.
The Kingston/St Andrew/St Catherine metropolitan region continues to have a high number of murders, recording 243 compared to 169 last year, an increase of more than 43%.
Among those is St Andrew South – the division with the largest number of murders so far this year, with a 261% increase. The three divisions with the largest murder figures are: St Andrew South, with 65 murders up 47 on the 18 that were murdered last year; St Catherine North, 52 up from 41 last year and Kingston West where 31 people were murdered last year the same number as those killed this year so far.
The data is according to the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF’s) periodic Serious Crimes Review for the period January 1 to April 21, 2018.
