Police Hunting for Men Who Robbed, Assaulted Truck Driver and Passenger

The St Ann police are continuing their search for gunmen, who robbed and assaulted a truck driver and another man in Golden Grove in the parish over the weekend. An illegal firearm and several rounds of ammunition were also seized during the early morning incident.

Police reports are that on Saturday, March 3 at about 4:30 a.m., a Leyland truck carrying goods was travelling along the roadway when on reaching the intersection of the Golden Grove and Irons Mountain main road, the driver saw two men.

Shortly after, the driver heard explosions and stopped the vehicle. The two men, who had earlier been seen standing along the roadway, pounced on the driver and his passenger and removed them from the truck.

The gunmen beat the men and robbed of personal items before driving the truck away leaving their bloodied victims behind.

The police were later summoned and the injured men were taken to the hospital, where they were treated and released.

The police eventually found the truck abandoned in a nearby community. A further search of the area resulted in the discovery of a semi-automatic pistol with five rounds of ammunition in bushes.

A manhunt is now underway to find the perpetrators who face charges of illegal possession of firearm, robbery with aggravation, assault and shooting with intent.
