The five people arrested in the pre-dawn, coordinated raids by police, targeting corruption and fraud at the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU) and the Ministry of Education, have been charged.
They are: Ruel Reid, charged under the Corruption Prevention Act and the Proceeds of Crime Act as well as for conspiracy to defraud; Reid’s wife Sharen and daughter Sherelle, were hit with the same charges. Also charged with Corruption and the under Proceeds of Crime Act and Conspiracy to defraud is Professor Fritz Pinnock, head of the CMU. Kim Brown Lawrence, JLP Councillor for Brown’s Town was charged with conspiracy to defraud and possession of the criminal property. The accused were being held at separate police facilities in the capital city efforts were being made to secure bail Wednesday evening.
