Two Men Arrested For Suspected Lottery Scamming

A series of raids conducted by the Area One Lottery Scam Task Force in St James on Wednesday, March 13, resulted in the arrest of two persons suspected to be in breach of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) Special Provisions Act.

The two, whose identities are being withheld, remain in custody while arrangements are made for them to be interviewed in the presence of their attorneys.

The raids were conducted between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at Brook Heights in Greenwood in the parish. At a one-apartment dwelling, a laptop, a cellular phone and compact discs were analyzed and found to contain the identity information of persons living overseas. One of the men was arrested at this location.

Another raid was conducted at a two-bedroom house, where the second man was arrested. During the search, a laptop computer and a cellular phone were analyzed and information related to the lottery scam was found. Lead sheets and a notebook containing the identity information of persons living overseas were also found.

The investigations are ongoing.
