University of the West Indies (UWI) won the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Senior Cup on Sunday, after winning first innings from Melbourne at Sabina Park.
Akim Fraser led UWI’s victory march taking 8 for 94 from 35.4 overs to restrict Melbourne to 295 (83.4 overs), four runs short of UWI’s first innings total of 299.
Melbourne’s failed victory bid was led by Andre McCarthy, who made 82 off 88 balls, including 10 fours and two sixes. Trevon Griffiths contributed 60 while Steven Taylor made 57.
When stumps were drawn, UWI were on 77 for eight off 32 overs in their second turn at bat.
On Saturday, UWI first innings total was set up by Captain Paul Palmer, who made 79 and Sadeque Henry who made 60.
Melbourne captain Nikita Miller took 4 for 74 while Oshane Thomas and Steven Taylor took two wickets apiece.
