The Ministry of Health and Wellness has confirmed that they are investigating the usage of E-cigarettes including Vapes, as concerns have been voiced surrounding their impact on health.
Electronic cigarettes/Vapes are handheld battery-powered vaporizers that simulate smoking however without the usage of tobacco. It uses oil containing propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin-based liquid with nicotine, flavoring, and other chemicals and metals.
According to the Health Ministry, its move to review the usage of e-cigarettes comes following hundreds of persons in the United States being hospitalized after continuously using e-cigarettes with some persons developing lung diseases.
Jamaica currently has three official vape stores. Jamaica Today spoke with a representative at one of the companies who they noted that there is ‘no evidence to prove any of the claims’ and expressed that persons who vape or are thinking to use vape should research and learn how to use the various devices.
